Tesla Motors is a producer of high-performance electric sports cars. Established in 2003 by Elon Musk, Marc Tarpenning and Martin Eberhard, its first car Tesla Roadster was test-driven by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in June 2006. Roadster has set a record of 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds, a speed competitive with Lamborghini and Prosche models. The car is available online at a base price of $100,000.
Just five years after Tesla Roadster hit the road, over 1,800 Roadsters are running emission-free in over 32 countries in 2008. With more production of these smoke-free cars, Tesla aims to lessen the world’s dependence on petroleum-driven cars. Tesla has been working closely with other electric car manufacturers to put more electric cars in the market.
As more and more people become interested in electric-powered cars, the world could transition to a full-ranged electric mobility in the near future – something worth looking forward to.
