It is the business philosophy of Lake|Flato to respond to the natural environment and allows its designs to merge with nature’s landscape. Lake|Flato accomplishes this by using local materials to build tactile and modern structures that are artfully crafted while being environmentally friendly and responsible. Each project that Lake|Flato undertakes is carried out with the highest sense of environmental knowledge through sustainable strategies that respond to the unique context of each structure.
At Lake|Flato, each project is discussed collaboratively in its open studio environment. There, the passion and talents of each person are pooled together for ownership of excellent and world-class designs. Lake|Flato personnel are not only architects. They are environment and community advocates who are willing to leave a legacy that would teach the next generation of architects.
Life is teeming in Lake|Flato office. Its office bicycle team rides their bicycles together, going to and fro The Third Street Grackles or participate in the community’s weekly volleyball or football league. The bubbling spirit of Lake|Flato extends to its Lake|Flato Weekend. Over the past twenty five years, the employees and their families are spending weekend together in swimming, camping, fishing or mountain biking. Together, they celebrate the fruits of their hard labor of preserving and protecting the environment.
To date, Lake|Flato is home to sixty professionals, composed of 28 architects, 26 professionals with LEED accreditation, and a sustainability coordinator and manager. Lake|Flato administration is handled by two principals and six partners.
For its accomplishments, Lake|Flato’s efforts have been recognized by award-giving bodies. The most prestigious award earned by Lake|Flato was the National Firm Award given by the American Institute of Architects in 2004. This is the highest award that AIA bestows to any company.
