Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation: On the Way to Become the Best Steelmaker in the World

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) is a Japanese steel, engineering and chemical company. Its corporate goal is to become the best steelmaker in the world. Since its founding, NSSMC has endeavored to reach this goal through its four-fold initiative.

1. NSSMC sees the increasing demand for steel worldwide. The company hopes to participate in meeting the demand by globalizing the steel business and expanding its reach in order to help the growing automotive, energy and environment sectors. NSSMC’s goal is to provide between 60 and 70 million tons of steel each year.

2. Metal has the potential to be maximized as a material. Since NSSMC possesses world-class technologies, it is positioned to continue improving its technologies and consolidating its strengths.

3. In a period of three years, NSSMC has synergized about ¥150 billion per year. NSSMC endeavors to increase the targeted synergy while reducing costs to increase the company’s competitiveness.

4. NSSMC will hold the top position since it is posed to improve the non-steel segments of the company such as engineering, chemicals and system solutions.
