IOI Corporation: Malaysia’s Largest Industrial Gas Group



IOI Corporation is one of the largest industrial gas conglomerates in Malaysia. It was incorporated as Industrial Oxygen Inc. Sdn Bhd on October 31, 1969. Aside from industrial gases, IOI is also into property development and palm oil plantations. IOI also owns the Palm Garden Hotel and the Marriott Putrajaya Hotel. It employs over 30,000 employees in over 15 countries.

The palm oil plantation accounts for 65% of the Group’s profits and is the biggest revenue contributor of the Group. It has 152,000 hectares of palm oil plantation in Malaysia and 83,000 hectares in Indonesia. Its 12 oil mills yield 4.1 million tons of palm oil per year.

About 18% of the Group’s revenues are contributed by IOI’s real estate business. The Group is involved in real estate development. Its property investments are more inclined on leisure and hospitality.

IOI is Asia’s largest producer of oleochemicals and specialty fats. The Group operates two manufacturing facilities with a combined capacity of over 750,000 tons of oleochemicals per year. Among IOI’s customers are large consumer food manufacturers such as Kraft, Cadbury, Nestle and Unilever.
