Polaris Industries: Manufacturer of Off Road Vehicles

There is a huge market for snowmobiles and ATVs (all terrain vehicles) in countries that experience winter and heavy snow. In the United States, one of the trusted manufacturers of these vehicles is Polaris Industries. The business thrives in the industry of motor vehicles since its inception in 1954.

Polaris Industries was founded by business partners, Edgar and Allen Hetteen and their employee David Johnson. The first product created by the company was made by David Johnson, Paul Knochenmus and Orlen Johnson. The product was made out of an Old Chevy bumper and a grain silo conveyor belt that served as the belt and the skis of the vehicle. The machine was created to provide transportation in the snow and provide access to hunting locations. Edgar Hetteen was later on inducted by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame as the father of the snowmobile.

In addition to the snowmobiles that Polaris Industries manufactures, the business also has a strong position in the market for ATVs and manufactures their own line of motorcycles through its subsidiaries Victory Motorcyles and Indian Motorcycle. The business continues to design, engineer and produce off-road vehicles that they market across Europe, Canada and in the United States. The products offered by the company not only varies in terms of the engine used, but also on the features that are added on every new model that comes out. These vehicles reach the market under the brand names Cross Roads, Cross Country, Indian, Polaris RUSH, RANGER, RZR, RANGER Crew, Victory Cross Roads and Victory Vision.

In addition to the vehicles that the company manufactures, they have also ventured in the marketing of recreational apparels that goes together with the vehicles they produce. The company’s headquarters is in Medina, Minnesota. It continues to publicly trade on the New York Stock Exchange, under the symbol PII.
