Olympus has one goal in mind – to
take up an integral role in society building while sharing its corporate values
and creating new ones to help all peoples in the world live more fulfilling and
healthier lives.
Olympus is implementing the Social
IN management philosophy. As the company does business, it understands the
importance of building relationships with people. The Social IN management
philosophy allows Olympus to embrace social values that actually play a
significant role in business ideology.
When Olympus was founded, its
creators had in mind a company that would produce microscopes for the global
market. The thrust was the sense of duty to be of help in advancing the
developments in the field of medicine through locally manufacturing of
microscopes.
From microscopes, Olympus moved to
the camera production, especially gastrocameras. The company
did this after the success of its Opto-Digital Technology,
the technology that integrated optical and digital technologies.
Guided by its corporate tagline
“Your Vision, Our Future,” Olympus is determined to realize its dream of having
the societies of men coexist in harmony. The company continues to innovate and make
all stakeholders, the shareholder and its clients proud of the Olympus brand.
Olympus was founded as Takachiho
Seisakusho. In 1942, the company was renamed as Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd.
when selling optical products became the company’s core business. Wanting to
improve its corporate image, the company was renamed Olympus Optical Co., Ltd.
in 1949.
In 2003, the company adopted the
name Olympus Corporation after it decided to establish a more dynamic brand.
Since then, the company focused on Opto-Digital Technology. This technology
embodies the company’s technological strengths and competence that are
imitation-proof. The company has proven that this technology can maximize the
company’s total corporate value to sustain its position on the top of the
companies in the optical instrument manufacturing industry.
